My overarching goal is to instill in my students, my mentees, and the general public an understanding and appreciation of the world's biodiversity and its origins.
Selected teaching, mentoring, and outreach experience:
Taught weekly discussion sections for Principles of Genetics course at LSU (Fall 2018, Spring 2025)
Volunteered for three years as an ornithology tutor/coach for the Science Olympiad team at Glasgow Middle School, Baton Rouge; the team finished first in the statewide competition twice and placed at multiple national invitational tournaments.
Undergraduate thesis advisor for Alejandro Sepulveda's work on eye color in manakins at the University of Caldas, Colombia.
Presented specimen tables and led "behind the scenes tours" at the LSU Museum of Science and the Cornell University Museum of Vertebrates.
Served on the student board of the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, planning events and outreach.
Developed and presented "Nature in your Neighborhood" remote programs for children at the Queens Public Library during the pandemic.
